Symptoms of throat itchiness accompanied by a dry cough are most likely due to acute pharyngitis caused by an upper respiratory tract infection, commonly viral in origin. Patients typically exhibit marked edema and hyperemia (redness) in the pharyngeal region, and regional lymph nodes may show mild enlargement and tenderness. For viral infections, active antiviral therapy is warranted, along with increased fluid intake and adequate rest to facilitate prompt recovery.
