What are the symptoms of colic in adults?
Disease description:
I frequently experience unexplained abdominal pain, which occurs almost daily at roughly the same time. Sometimes the pain is quite severe—so intense during episodes that it becomes unbearable. I suspect it might be intestinal colic. What does intestinal colic look like in adults?
Hello,
In adults, colic primarily manifests as paroxysmal pain around the umbilicus. Colic is not exclusive to infants; some adults also experience it due to factors such as abdominal cold exposure or parasitic infection. When the abdomen becomes cold, intestinal ischemia and hypoxia can trigger abnormal spasms in the gastrointestinal tract, thereby inducing colic. During a colic episode, the primary site of pain is typically periumbilical. Each episode lasts from several minutes to over ten minutes, and after temporary relief, the pain may recur.
