Hello, yellowing of the sclera (the “white” of the eye) may result from pigment deposition or conjunctival hypertrophy—particularly in individuals who spend prolonged periods outdoors. Such changes are typically benign and do not impair ocular function, so no treatment is usually required. However, yellowing can also signal an underlying ocular condition, such as chronic conjunctivitis, which often causes conjunctival congestion; over time, this may lead to visible yellow discoloration of the sclera. Additionally, systemic conditions—especially liver dysfunction—can cause scleral jaundice (yellowing), which requires prompt diagnosis and appropriate treatment of the underlying hepatic disorder to resolve. We hope this information is helpful. Wishing you good health!
