What should I do if I’m too excited to fall asleep?
Disease description:
For the past few nights, I’ve lain in bed without feeling sleepy—my mental state actually feels better than during the day. I’m too excited to fall asleep. What should I do?
Insomnia caused by excessive excitement can be self-managed through techniques such as meditation or counting. Patients are advised to relax their minds, adopt a more open and accepting attitude, and avoid overthinking trivial matters related to work or daily life, which may otherwise increase anxiety and distress. For dinner, avoid eating excessively; refrain from consuming strong tea, coffee, or other stimulants before bedtime; and avoid watching highly stimulating movies or listening to upbeat, energetic music prior to sleep. Instead, go to bed at a consistent time each night and practice meditation or counting to facilitate sleep—thereby cultivating healthy sleep habits.
