What does frequent fetal hiccups indicate?
Disease description:
Recently, I’ve noticed that the fetal movements have become unusually frequent. A colleague mentioned this might be the fetus hiccuping. Could you please explain what causes frequent fetal hiccups?
Frequent fetal hiccups may result from incomplete lung development or from the fetus swallowing amniotic fluid. Fetal hiccups can also occur when pulmonary spasms are present. During pregnancy, maternal consumption of cold or stimulating foods, eating too quickly, or ingesting dry, hard foods may also trigger frequent fetal hiccups.
