Can psoriasis be inherited by children?
Disease description:
I have psoriasis and am concerned about passing it on to my child. Can psoriasis be inherited by my child?
Psoriasis may be inherited by children. Scientific evidence now confirms that psoriasis has a genetic component and follows a pattern of recessive inheritance—often manifesting as skipped-generation (or “隔代”) inheritance. Thus, if one or both parents in the previous generation have psoriasis, their children may inherit the condition, and it may even appear in grandchildren despite being absent in the intervening generation. Prompt treatment is essential upon onset of psoriasis to prevent disease progression, and maintaining clean, dry skin is also important.
