After being diagnosed with chronic gastritis, I have been taking omeprazole continuously. Could long-term or excessive use of omeprazole increase the risk of cancer?

Omeprazole, a weakly basic drug, contains specific active ingredients that inhibit gastric acid secretion. Long-term use can also protect the gastric mucosa and is highly effective in treating gastrointestinal inflammatory conditions and other digestive tract disorders. However, as the saying goes, “all drugs carry some toxicity.” Excessive intake may cause side effects such as dry mouth, nausea, vomiting, and elevated transaminase levels; in certain cases, it may even pose a risk of hemolysis. Nevertheless, omeprazole is not carcinogenic.
