Constipation can be treated with traditional Chinese herbal medicines such as rhubarb (Rheum palmatum), Prunus mandshurica seed, pine nut kernel, Cannabis seed, Coptis chinensis, and peach kernel. Patent Chinese medicines—including Tongbian Ling Capsules, Mahua Runchang Pills, and Compound Aloe Capsules—may also be used. Patients may additionally consume fiber-rich foods—such as corn, sorghum, and brown rice—to promote gastrointestinal motility and alleviate constipation. In cases of severe constipation, pharmacological interventions such as glycerin suppositories or lactulose may be required.
