Difference Between Pulse Pressure and Blood Pressure
Disease description:
Why is blood pressure measured on the upper arm rather than the wrist? What is the difference between pulse pressure and blood pressure?
Systemic arterial blood pressure—commonly referred to as “blood pressure”—is the pressure exerted by circulating blood against the walls of blood vessels; this pressure drives blood flow through the vasculature. Pulse pressure is defined as the difference between systolic and diastolic blood pressure. Blood pressure measurements taken on the upper limb are more accurate; therefore, measurement is performed on the arm. To ensure accuracy, avoid vigorous physical activity prior to measurement, and ideally perform the measurement in the morning while fasting.
