What should I do about edema after circumcision?
Post-circumcision edema is a normal physiological response and can be managed effectively through three approaches: warm compress therapy, pharmacological treatment, and dietary modification.
① Warm Compress Therapy
Warm compresses can effectively alleviate post-circumcision edema, often producing noticeable improvement within approximately 5–10 minutes, during which time the swelling begins to subside gradually.

② Pharmacological Treatment
Strictly adhere to your physician’s instructions when using prescribed medications to promote resolution of edema and prevent wound infection. Additionally, schedule regular follow-up visits prior to complete wound healing to monitor progress and ensure timely local medication changes as needed.
③ Dietary Modification
After surgery, men should avoid spicy, irritating foods and alcoholic beverages, as these may exacerbate existing edema and impede wound healing. It is also advisable to increase fluid intake to dilute urine concentration and minimize potential urinary irritation to the surgical site.
