What should I do about edema after circumcision?
Postoperative edema following circumcision is a normal phenomenon and can be managed through three approaches: warm compress therapy, pharmacological treatment, and dietary modifications.
① Warm Compress Therapy
Edema after circumcision can be effectively alleviated using warm compresses, which typically yield noticeable improvement. Approximately 5–10 minutes after application, patients often observe gradual reduction of the edema.
② Pharmacological Treatment
Patients must strictly adhere to their physician’s instructions when using prescribed medications to promote edema resolution and prevent wound infection. Additionally, regular follow-up visits are essential prior to complete wound healing to monitor progress and timely replace topical medications as needed.
③ Dietary Modifications
Following surgery, men should avoid spicy, irritating foods and alcohol, as these may exacerbate edema and impede wound healing. Increased fluid intake is also recommended to dilute urine and minimize potential irritation of the surgical site.
