Introduction
Peeling of the skin on the feet after taking traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) may be caused by: 1. Allergic reaction; or 2. Tinea pedis (athlete’s foot). 1. Allergic reaction: Peeling of the feet following TCM intake may result from an allergic response to the herbal formula—often due to excessively potent herbs or inappropriate prescription (i.e., herbs mismatched to the patient’s condition). In such cases, medication should be discontinued immediately.

Peeling of the feet after taking traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) may be due to: 1) Allergic reaction; or 2) Tinea pedis (athlete’s foot).

1) Allergic reaction: Peeling of the feet following TCM intake may result from an allergic response to the herbal formula—often triggered by overly potent herbs or an inappropriate prescription that does not match the patient’s condition. In such cases, discontinue the medication immediately, drink plenty of plain water to enhance metabolism and accelerate elimination of the herbal components.

2) Tinea pedis: Foot peeling after taking TCM may also stem from tinea pedis. In this condition, the skin between the toes often becomes whitish and macerated, sometimes accompanied by blisters. This fungal infection is commonly associated with microbial colonization and compromised local immunity. Maintain strict foot hygiene and, under medical supervision, apply antifungal topical ointments for symptom relief.

If foot peeling occurs after taking TCM, seek prompt medical evaluation at a hospital. A healthcare professional should assess and identify the underlying cause to prevent misdiagnosis or treatment delay.
