Introduction
Cervical canal fluid accumulation typically results from damage to the cervical canal in women, leading to fluid buildup within the canal. Cervical fluid accumulation is also one of the common gynecological conditions. Repeated abortions, dilation and curettage (D&C), and chronic cervicitis can all cause damage to the external cervical os. Consequently, normal secretions from the uterine cavity or menstrual discharge cannot be expelled smoothly. Over time, these fluids progressively accumulate within the cervical canal.

Cervical canal fluid accumulation refers to the presence of inflammatory exudate in the pelvic cavity. It typically occurs following endometritis, when swelling of the endometrial tissue and cellular exudation from surrounding tissues gradually produce a mildly viscous fluid that accumulates within the cervical canal. So, what exactly is cervical canal fluid accumulation?

What Causes Cervical Canal Fluid Accumulation?

Cervical canal fluid accumulation generally results from injury to the cervical canal, leading to fluid retention within it. Cervical fluid accumulation is also one of the common gynecological conditions in women. Repeated induced abortions, dilation and curettage (D&C), and chronic cervicitis can all cause damage to the cervical os. Consequently, normal secretions from the uterine cavity or menstrual discharge cannot be expelled smoothly. Over time, these fluids progressively accumulate within the cervical canal. Severe cases may cause abdominal pain, obstruction of menstrual flow, and dysmenorrhea, necessitating prompt treatment. Common therapeutic approaches include cervical dilation or hysteroscopy, followed by careful postoperative recovery.

Treatment of cervical fluid accumulation primarily depends on its classification—physiological or pathological. Physiological cervical fluid accumulation does not require specific intervention and usually resolves spontaneously. Pathological cervical fluid accumulation is commonly caused by acute or chronic cervical inflammation. Regardless of whether the inflammation is acute or chronic, antimicrobial therapy forms the cornerstone of treatment. For acute inflammation, intravenous antibiotic administration is recommended; for chronic inflammation, oral antibiotics are typically prescribed.

Patients should maintain good personal hygiene, cleansing the external genitalia each evening to ensure cleanliness and dryness. We hope this information has been helpful to you.
