Introduction
Some patients with gastric ulcers experience nausea, vomiting, and loss of appetite during the course of their illness. The most severe complications include gastric perforation, pyloric obstruction, and upper gastrointestinal or gastric bleeding—conditions that are extremely dangerous. When these complications are suspected, prompt physical examination is essential. Currently, common diagnostic methods for gastric ulcers include endoscopy, X-ray imaging, ultrasound, other radiological examinations, and laboratory tests.

Peptic Ulcer Disease: A Common and Highly Impactful Condition

Peptic ulcer disease is a prevalent and serious condition affecting many individuals. Gastric ulcers, in particular, can cause substantial harm to the body. If left untreated over a prolonged period, they may also trigger other complications. Consequently, many patients undergoing treatment for gastric ulcers not only take medications but also adjust their diet accordingly. So, what are the symptoms and treatment options for peptic ulcer disease?

Symptoms and Treatment of Peptic Ulcer Disease

Some patients with gastric ulcers experience nausea, vomiting, and loss of appetite during the course of their illness. In severe cases, complications such as gastric perforation, pyloric obstruction, or upper gastrointestinal (including gastric) bleeding may occur—conditions that pose significant health risks. Upon noticing any of these signs, prompt medical evaluation is essential. Currently, common diagnostic methods include endoscopy, X-ray imaging, ultrasound, other radiological examinations, and laboratory tests. Accurate diagnosis of gastric ulcers relies on definitive findings from these investigations. Importantly, gastric ulcers must be differentiated from duodenal ulcers. Moreover, certain gastric ulcers carry a risk of malignant transformation; therefore, timely treatment is crucial once a diagnosis is confirmed. Presently, drug therapy remains the primary treatment modality, encompassing both traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and Western pharmaceuticals. This therapeutic process typically requires an extended duration. Thus, during treatment, patients should remain patient and avoid becoming anxious if symptom relief is not immediate.

Patients with peptic ulcer disease should primarily consume soft, easily digestible foods such as millet porridge, corn porridge, eggs, and noodles. They must strictly avoid cold foods, spicy or greasy dishes, binge eating, and overeating—instead opting for smaller, more frequent meals. Maintaining a positive mental state supports gastric ulcer healing. Concurrently, appropriate use of acid-suppressing agents, gastric mucosal protectants, and stomach-nourishing medications is recommended. Additionally, if Helicobacter pylori infection is present, eradication therapy is necessary.

Gastric ulcer patients are advised to pay close attention to dietary habits in daily life and abstain from alcohol consumption to prevent disease progression. We hope this information proves helpful to you.
