Introduction
Dietary Therapy for Hypotension After developing hypotension, patients experiencing dizziness may increase their salt intake. Salt helps elevate blood pressure and alleviate dizziness. Additionally, patients should consume foods rich in vitamins and folate, such as dairy products (e.g., milk and yogurt) and dark green vegetables (e.g., broccoli). Furthermore, Shenma Injection may be used; this medication can rapidly raise blood pressure.

Many patients with hypotension frequently experience symptoms such as dizziness and headache in daily life. They are often uncertain about how to treat hypotension. So, how is hypotension treated?

How Is Hypotension Treated?

Dietary therapy for hypotension: When patients experience dizziness due to low blood pressure, increasing dietary salt intake may help raise blood pressure and alleviate dizziness. Additionally, consuming foods rich in vitamins and folate—such as dairy products (e.g., milk and yogurt) and dark green vegetables (e.g., broccoli)—is recommended. Exercise therapy: Patients with hypotension may engage in gentle physical activities—such as tai chi or walking—once their condition has stabilized.

Pharmacological treatment is also an option for hypotension. For example, Shengmai Yin (a traditional Chinese herbal formula) contains red ginseng, Ophiopogon root (Maidong), Schisandra fruit (Wuweizi), and sucrose, and functions to tonify Qi, nourish Yin, and promote fluid production. Another option is Shenma Injection, which can rapidly elevate blood pressure. In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), acupuncture and acupressure are commonly used to manage hypotension—particularly targeting the Baihui (GV20) and Tianzhu (BL10) acupoints. The Baihui point is located at the vertex of the head; stimulating it may help regulate abnormal blood pressure. Patients should pay attention to proper technique and appropriate pressure when performing self-acupressure.

Hypotension often occurs in individuals with constitutional weakness; it may also result from certain illnesses or acute blood loss. Therefore, regardless of disease severity, patients must adopt appropriate and evidence-based management strategies. We hope this article has been helpful.
