The Mechanism of Action of Fusidic Acid Ointment
Fusidic acid cream is a commonly used dermatological medication. Its active ingredient is fusidic acid, which is clinically indicated for the treatment of bacterial skin infections caused by organisms such as Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, Propionibacterium acnes, and Corynebacterium minutissimum. Fusidic acid may irritate the conjunctiva; therefore, avoid application near the eyes.

Therapeutic Effects of Fusidic Acid Cream
Fusidic acid cream exerts antibacterial activity, along with heat-clearing, detoxifying, and anti-inflammatory effects. It is highly effective in treating paronychia and impetigo, as well as other bacterial skin infections. Paronychia is commonly caused by fungal infection and may result in localized swelling and pain.
Fusidic acid cream is a white, emulsion-based ointment. Fusidic acid demonstrates high sensitivity against various Gram-positive cocci associated with skin infections—particularly Staphylococcus species—and remains effective against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). It also exhibits some antibacterial activity against certain Gram-negative bacteria and shows no cross-resistance with other antibiotics.
Fusidic acid cream is indicated for various bacterial skin infections, especially those caused by Gram-positive cocci, including impetigo, furuncles, folliculitis, paronychia, sycosis, hidradenitis suppurativa, erythrasma, common acne, infected wounds, infected eczema, and infected ulcers.

Precautions for Using Fusidic Acid Cream
1. Fusidic acid may irritate the conjunctiva; avoid applying near the eyes.
2. For severe or refractory skin infections, systemic antibiotic therapy should be considered as adjunctive treatment.
3. Discontinue use immediately if severe irritation or allergic reactions occur, and switch to an alternative appropriate therapy.
