Whether hospitalization is required for cervical polypectomy primarily depends on the location of the polyp. First, if the polyp is located on the surface of the cervix—where its base is visible to the naked eye—hospitalization is not necessary. The polyp can be directly excised during an outpatient gynecological examination using oval forceps. Second, if the polyp is situated within the cervical canal, hospitalization is required for hysteroscopic polypectomy.

This procedure necessitates anesthesia and carries higher risks; therefore, it cannot be performed on an outpatient basis and must be conducted in a hospital setting.
Thus, women diagnosed with cervical polyps should first determine the appropriate surgical approach; the need for hospitalization depends on the selected method. Blind outpatient treatment should be avoided, as even if a polyp is removed in the outpatient setting, incomplete excision—particularly failure to remove the base—greatly increases the risk of recurrence. Moreover, markedly enlarged or multiple polyps may cause contact bleeding. If general anesthesia is required during surgery, hospitalization is mandatory. Postoperative monitoring of anesthesia recovery is essential, and bleeding should be closely observed. Typically, patients are advised to remain hospitalized for observation for 3–5 days following surgery, and strict attention to hygiene is required postoperatively.
