In patients with bronchitis, fever arises directly from inflammation of the bronchi. If left uncontrolled, the fever will persist. While antipyretic medications provide only symptomatic relief, prompt anti-inflammatory treatment must follow once the fever subsides to control the underlying bronchitis and prevent disease progression. Otherwise, bronchitis may spread to other areas—potentially leading to pneumonia. It is also important to note that although bronchitis is distinct from pneumonia, patients should still avoid strenuous exercise. This is primarily because bronchial inflammation impairs normal airway function.
Bronchitis is predominantly an inflammatory condition; respiratory symptoms manifest when the bronchi undergo an inflammatory response. Most patients present with either acute or chronic forms. In early-stage bronchitis, symptoms often mimic those of the common cold. As the disease progresses, patients may develop chills, high-grade fever, generalized body aches, persistent cough, sputum production, and chest tightness—sometimes accompanied by chest pain and dyspnea. Fever is common among affected individuals. Treatment typically involves anti-inflammatory agents; pathogen identification via complete blood count (CBC) and sputum analysis helps guide targeted anti-inflammatory therapy.
