Introduction
Cervical spondylosis can be treated through Western medical approaches, such as heat therapy for the cervical spine. Administration of Western medications is a common treatment method, often providing rapid pain relief—making it especially suitable for patients experiencing acute exacerbations. Typically, anti-inflammatory analgesics and neurotrophic agents are administered orally. Specifically, ibuprofen sustained-release capsules (Fenbid®), ibuprofen tablets, and mecobalamin tablets may be taken orally.

Cervical spondylosis is a highly prevalent condition—especially among office workers—nearly all of whom experience cervical pain at some point. Left untreated over time, this condition naturally progresses to cervical spondylosis, which can easily worsen; therefore, timely and effective treatment is essential. So, what should one do about cervical spondylosis?

What to Do About Cervical Spondylosis

Cervical spondylosis can be managed through Western medical treatments, heat therapy, and other approaches. Oral administration of Western medications is a common treatment method and typically provides rapid pain relief—making it especially suitable for patients experiencing acute flare-ups. Generally, anti-inflammatory analgesics and neurotrophic agents may be taken orally. Specifically, ibuprofen tablets (e.g., Fenbid®), ibuprofen tablets, and mecobalamin tablets are commonly prescribed. Appropriate moist heat application (e.g., warm compresses) can also help alleviate symptoms of cervical spondylosis by improving local blood circulation and relieving muscle spasm and swelling. This can be done using a warm towel or hot water bottle applied externally to the cervical region; however, caution is advised during the acute phase.

Cervical spondylosis may result from poor sleeping posture, prolonged driving, or similar factors. Consistently sleeping on one side for extended periods can lead to lateral curvature of the cervical spine, compromising spinal health. Using a pillow that is too high—or adopting improper sleeping positions—can cause uneven stress on intervertebral discs and disrupt the balance between muscles and joints, thereby accelerating degenerative changes in the cervical spine. Similarly, prolonged side-lying on a sofa while watching TV or playing mahjong places excessive pressure on the cervical spine and surrounding tissues, leading to cumulative strain. For drivers, maintaining the neck in a fixed position for long durations causes sustained tension in the neck muscles and increases mechanical stress on the cervical intervertebral discs.

It is advisable to avoid cold exposure and drafts to the neck—particularly during cold weather—and to maintain warmth in the neck and shoulder regions. Wearing scarves or high-necked clothing can effectively help retain heat around the cervical area. We hope this information proves helpful to you.
