Introduction
Individuals with a constitution characterized by kidney yin deficiency and damp-heat are prone to eczema, which tends to recur frequently and is accompanied by more pronounced pruritus. Such individuals often experience joint pain that improves with cold compresses. They may also suffer from dysuria, abdominal distension, and diarrhea. In hot weather or after physical exertion, they tend to sweat profusely. Patients with a damp-heat constitution commonly manifest eczema symptoms, and once eczema develops, it is typically difficult to resolve.

Damp-heat constitution is a concept in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) that reflects both a symptomatic pattern and a suboptimal health state. Although damp-heat constitution does not typically cause overt harm in the short term, prolonged neglect may gradually impair bodily functions and disrupt normal metabolic processes. However, most people remain unaware of its characteristic symptoms. So, what are the manifestations of a damp-heat constitution combined with kidney yin deficiency?

Manifestations of Damp-Heat Constitution with Kidney Yin Deficiency

Individuals with this constitution frequently develop eczema, which tends to recur persistently, accompanied by increasingly intense pruritus (itching). Joint pain is also common and often alleviated by cold compresses. Patients may experience dysuria (painful urination), abdominal distension, and diarrhea. Excessive sweating commonly occurs during hot weather or after physical exertion. Those with damp-heat constitution are particularly prone to eczema; once developed, such eczema proves difficult to resolve and highly susceptible to recurrence. Moreover, their eczema symptoms tend to be more severe—and the associated itching more intense—than in individuals without this constitution, sometimes becoming unbearable.

This constitution also predisposes individuals to joint swelling and pain. Such joint discomfort is typically transient and often exacerbated during hot weather. Though usually mild, the swelling and pain can be effectively relieved with cold compresses. Patients with damp-heat constitution may also suffer dysuria—marked by significant discomfort and difficulty voiding—and impaired urinary excretion. If left untreated over time, this may progress to urinary frequency and urgency.

It is recommended that patients consume more winter melon soup; regular intake of winter melon can effectively alleviate various discomforts associated with damp-heat constitution. We hope this information proves helpful to you.
