Introduction
Sudden eyelid pain may be caused by unhealthy lifestyle and dietary habits, blepharitis, or meibomian gland inflammation (hordeolum). Staying up late and lack of eye rest, along with consuming spicy and greasy foods, can lead to internal heat in the body and result in sudden eyelid pain. Eyelid infections causing hordeolum can also lead to sudden eyelid pain. Blepharitis, which may result from infection, refractive errors, or excessive eye strain, can similarly cause sudden eyelid pain.

Sudden eyelid pain may be caused by unhealthy lifestyle and dietary habits, blepharitis (inflammation of the eyelid glands), or blepharitis (inflammation of the eyelid margin).

1. Unhealthy Lifestyle and Dietary Habits

Chronic sleep deprivation, insufficient rest, prolonged use of electronic devices—leading to inadequate eye relaxation—or frequent consumption of spicy or greasy foods (which may cause internal heat accumulation)—can all potentially trigger sudden eyelid pain.

2. Blepharitis (Meibomian Gland or Sebaceous Gland Infection)

Poor eyelid hygiene can result in bacterial infection—commonly by *Staphylococcus aureus*—of the sebaceous glands or meibomian glands at the eyelid margin, causing blepharitis. This leads to sudden eyelid pain, accompanied by eyelid erythema and swelling.

3. Blepharitis (Eyelid Margin Inflammation)

Blepharitis of the eyelid margin is commonly caused by infections with *Staphylococcus aureus*, *Malassezia furfur* (formerly *Pityrosporum ovale*), or *Moraxella-Acinetobacter* (Morax–Axenfeld) diplobacilli, resulting in inflammatory changes at the lid margin and around the base of the eyelashes. It may also arise from refractive errors or excessive ocular fatigue. Symptoms include sudden eyelid pain, ocular pruritus, and signs such as eyelid margin skin erythema, swelling, and flushing.
