What causes pain inside the eyelid?
Pain inside the eyelid may be caused by physiological factors, or it could result from pathological conditions such as blepharitis or bacterial conjunctivitis.
I. Physiological Causes
Extended screen time on electronic devices or staying up late can lead to eye muscle fatigue and obstruct tear secretion, resulting in symptoms like dryness and itching of the eyes. When rubbing the eyes under these conditions, the lack of sufficient lubrication from tears may cause pain inside the eyelid. It's important to develop healthy eye-use habits. When discomfort occurs, applying a warm compress or closing the eyes to rest can help relieve symptoms.
II. Pathological Causes
1. Blepharitis
When the surface of the eyelid, hair follicles of the eyelashes, or their associated glands are irritated by pathogens or other secretions, local inflammation may develop, causing eyelid pain. Under medical guidance, medications such as levofloxacin eye drops, erythromycin eye ointment, or tobramycin eye drops can be used to control inflammation and improve symptoms.
2. Bacterial Conjunctivitis
When the conjunctiva is invaded by bacteria, it may become congested and swollen. The local inflammatory response can also cause pain in the eyelid. Under medical supervision, treatments such as gatifloxacin eye drops, levofloxacin eye drops, or chloramphenicol eye drops are recommended to alleviate discomfort caused by inflammation.
In addition, sebaceous cysts may also be responsible. A thorough evaluation at a hospital is necessary to determine the exact cause and appropriate treatment plan.
