Introduction
Fever generally refers to an elevated body temperature. Having a fever does not necessarily mean one is infected with COVID-19; determining whether someone has contracted COVID-19 requires specific analysis based on symptoms and the underlying cause. Since infections caused by bacteria and other viruses can also lead to fever, it is necessary to evaluate the specific symptoms and the exact cause of the fever to determine if it is due to a COVID-19 infection.

Fever generally refers to an elevated body temperature. Having a fever does not necessarily mean infection with the novel coronavirus; whether one has contracted the novel coronavirus requires specific analysis based on symptoms and underlying causes. Infections caused by bacteria or other viruses can also lead to fever, so determining if the fever is due to the novel coronavirus depends on evaluating the specific symptoms and root cause.

When the body's immunity is low, pathogenic microorganisms such as bacteria may enter the body and trigger mechanisms to fight infection, resulting in a series of inflammatory responses. This may manifest as an increase in body temperature. Other associated symptoms might include cough, phlegm production, dizziness, fatigue, nasal congestion, runny nose, etc. These conditions usually improve quickly with anti-inflammatory treatment.

The fever caused by the novel coronavirus may not differ significantly from that of a common cold, as both can present in various ways. However, fever caused by the novel coronavirus typically lasts longer—often more than one week—while ordinary fevers are usually self-limiting and last about 3 to 5 days. Even after taking antipyretic medications, individuals infected with the novel coronavirus may experience poor fever reduction or recurring fever after temporary improvement.

If you develop a fever, it is recommended to seek medical attention promptly. If you suspect novel coronavirus infection, consider undergoing a nucleic acid test (such as PCR). A negative test result generally rules out the novel coronavirus as the cause of the fever. During the fever period, ensure adequate rest, drink plenty of fluids, and actively follow the treatment plan advised by your doctor.
