Introduction
Itchy palms upon waking in the morning may be caused by contact with allergens, leading to allergic skin reactions on the hands. Additionally, washing socks or touching shoes of someone with athlete's foot can transfer fungal infections to the hands, resulting in hand fungus (tinea manuum) and causing itchy palms. Poor hand hygiene or local irritation from chemical substances can also lead to itchy palms.

Itchy palms upon waking in the morning may be caused by skin allergies, tinea manuum (hand fungal infection), or neurodermatitis.

1. Skin Allergy

If the palms come into contact with allergens such as dust, pollen, or chemicals, or if one consumes allergenic foods like seafood, an allergic reaction on the skin may occur, leading to itchy palms.

2. Tinea Manuum (Hand Fungus)

Washing socks for someone with athlete's foot or touching shoes worn by such individuals may transfer fungi to the hands, resulting in tinea manuum and causing itchy palms.

3. Neurodermatitis

Poor hand hygiene, infrequently washed clothing, or irritation from local chemical exposure may trigger neurodermatitis, which can also lead to itchy palms.

When experiencing the above symptoms, avoid scratching with hands to prevent skin breakdown and secondary infection. If itching is severe, seek medical evaluation to determine the exact cause. Under a doctor’s guidance, appropriate medications should be used for treatment.
