Introduction
Drinking alcohol while taking levofloxacin may cause a disulfiram-like reaction, so it is generally not recommended to consume alcohol with levofloxacin. Levofloxacin is a quinolone antibiotic that contains components inhibiting alcohol metabolism, which can prevent normal elimination of alcohol metabolites from the body. The accumulation of these metabolites may lead to adverse reactions, commonly known as disulfiram-like reactions.
