Is it "internal heat" that causes itching inside the ear?
It is usually not due to "heatiness" that the inside of the ear feels itchy; it may be caused by other factors.
"Heatiness" may result from high temperatures, dehydration, or prolonged exposure to hot and humid environments, leading to an excessive internal heat condition. Common symptoms include red and swollen eyes, mouth ulcers, yellow urine, toothache, and sore throat. However, it typically does not cause itching inside the ear. Itching in the ear may occur when the ear canal remains moist for long periods, or is repeatedly irritated by substances such as tears or sweat, leading to eczema within the ear canal. It could also result from using unclean tools to clean the ears, causing fungal infections due to cross-contamination.
Patients are advised to seek timely medical evaluation at a hospital to determine the exact cause and receive appropriate treatment to prevent worsening of the condition. If the ear itching is caused by external otitis (inflammation of the outer ear canal), topical medications such as triamcinolone acetonide or compound dexamethasone acetate may usually be applied under a doctor's guidance.
