Can nasal saline irrigation cure rhinitis?
Saline irrigation can provide certain auxiliary therapeutic effects for rhinitis, but it generally cannot cure the condition. It may help patients alleviate discomfort symptoms caused by rhinitis.
Washing the nasal cavity with saline effectively removes large amounts of bacteria, viruses, and allergens from the nasal passages, thereby helping to relieve rhinitis-related symptoms. However, saline irrigation only serves as an adjunctive treatment and cannot achieve a complete cure. It is recommended that rhinitis patients, after performing saline nasal rinses, also receive medical treatment under a doctor's guidance, including the use of medications such as nasal sprays (e.g., mometasone furoate nasal spray, budesonide nasal spray), and, as directed by a physician, oral antibiotics such as amoxicillin capsules or cefixime capsules.
In addition, rhinitis patients should pay attention to environmental hygiene and wear masks when going outdoors, which helps reduce or prevent the entry of bacteria, viruses, or allergens into the nasal cavity and thus prevents rhinitis flare-ups.
