How long does it take to treat laryngopharyngeal reflux until recovery?
Laryngopharyngeal reflux generally refers to reflux laryngitis. Reflux laryngitis may take 2–3 months to resolve, or in some cases longer than 3 months, depending on the specific circumstances.
1. 2–3 months
Reflux laryngitis is usually caused by factors such as excessive obesity, poor dietary habits (for example, frequent consumption of spicy or irritating foods), or gastrointestinal disorders, which lead to gastric contents flowing back into the throat and irritating the local mucosa, resulting in inflammation. If the patient is in good general health, has mild symptoms of reflux laryngitis, receives timely treatment under a doctor's guidance, maintains a light diet, and engages in appropriate physical exercise, recovery tends to be relatively quick, and improvement typically occurs after 2–3 months of treatment.
2. Longer than 3 months
If reflux laryngitis is severe, the patient’s overall health is poor, or if treatment is delayed or medications are not taken as prescribed during therapy, the treatment duration is often prolonged. In such cases, it may take more than 3 months—or even longer—for full recovery.
