Why should perampanel tablets be taken before bedtime?
Perampanel tablets are an antiepileptic medication and may cause significant side effects. After taking the drug, patients may experience adverse symptoms such as dizziness and drowsiness. Since nighttime is the peak period for epileptic seizures, taking the medication before bedtime can effectively reduce both the impact of drug-related side effects and the likelihood of seizure episodes.
Perampanel tablets are indicated for patients with partial-onset seizures that do not progress to generalized seizures. The drug primarily works by inhibiting abnormal electrical discharges in the brain to control epilepsy. Seizures are most likely to occur during sleep, as the cerebral cortex's inhibitory function decreases at night, allowing epileptic foci to more easily generate abnormal discharges. During light sleep stages, neurons are prone to synchronized discharges, which may trigger seizures. Taking the medication at night helps effectively suppress this abnormal neuronal synchronization, improve seizure control, alleviate symptoms, and promote earlier recovery.
Overdose of perampanel tablets may lead to symptoms such as hostility or aggression, dizziness, unsteady gait, and fatigue. The specific dosage and administration must be strictly followed under the guidance of a physician.
