Postoperative Instructions for Tympanoplasty
After tympanoplasty, attention should be paid to postoperative care, regular medication, timely follow-up visits, and other related matters.
1. Postoperative Care
After undergoing tympanoplasty, avoid nose-blowing and forceful sneezing. Keep the ear clean and dry, and prevent water from entering the ear canal to reduce the risk of postoperative complications. In terms of diet, avoid spicy foods and consume more light, easily digestible meals.
2. Regular Medication
To prevent postoperative infection, take anti-infective medications as directed by your doctor, such as amoxicillin capsules or cefprozil tablets, to minimize the risk of infection.
3. Timely Follow-up Visits
After tympanoplasty, packing material is usually placed in the ear canal and needs to be removed approximately one week after surgery. Therefore, it is important to return to the hospital for a follow-up appointment on schedule to monitor healing progress.
In addition to the above points, protect the eardrum by avoiding air travel, as pressure changes during takeoff and landing may cause re-perforation. Also, avoid staying in excessively noisy environments, which could negatively affect postoperative recovery.
