How to manage fever in a one-year-old child
Febrile children refers to children with fever. For a one-year-old child with fever, management may include physical cooling, using fever-reducing patches, and administering antipyretic medications.
1. Physical Cooling
If a one-year-old child has a fever but their mental state and appetite remain unaffected, physical cooling methods can be used to alleviate symptoms. This includes tepid sponge baths and encouraging the child to drink more warm water.
2. Fever-Reducing Patches
If body temperature is below 38.5°C, fever-reducing patches can be applied to help lower the temperature. Applying these patches to the forehead or underarms can assist in cooling.
3. Antipyretic Medications
If the child's temperature exceeds 38.5°C, antipyretic drugs such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen suspension may be used under medical guidance.
In addition to the above measures, if a one-year-old child experiences persistent or recurrent fever that does not subside, prompt medical attention is necessary to prevent complications such as febrile seizures caused by excessively high body temperature.
