Rib deformity refers to abnormal shape or structure of the ribs, generally classified into types such as flared ribs, bifid ribs, pectus excavatum, pectus carinatum, and thoracic cage deformities. Rib deformity refers to abnormal shape or structure of the ribs, generally classified into types such as rib flaring, bifid ribs, pectus excavatum, pectus carinatum, and thoracic cage deformities.

1. Rib flaring: Rib flaring occurs when a groove forms at the junction of the costal arch, costal cartilage, and rib, causing the lower rib margin to turn upward and outward in appearance. It is one type of rib deformity.

2. Bifid ribs: Bifid ribs are a congenital abnormality in rib development. Most patients exhibit rib splitting between the third and fourth ribs on the right side, which can be diagnosed using X-ray imaging.

3. Pectus excavatum: This condition involves inward and backward depression of the sternum and ribs, representing a more severe form of rib deformity. Patients may experience symptoms such as palpitations, shortness of breath, and difficulty breathing. Early detection and timely surgical intervention are recommended to relieve discomfort and prevent serious health complications.

4. Pectus carinatum: Opposite to pectus excavatum, pectus carinatum features an outward protrusion of the sternum, resulting in a convex chest appearance. Although it usually does not directly affect cardiopulmonary function, it may lead to body image concerns and psychological issues.

5. Thoracic cage deformities: This category includes various abnormalities related to the skeletal structure of the thorax, such as abnormal number of ribs or incomplete rib development. These conditions may negatively impact chest structure and respiratory function.
