Blood collection for cardiac enzymes typically uses a yellow-top tube. Elevated cardiac enzymes primarily indicate acute myocardial infarction, in which myocardial cells suffer from ischemia and hypoxia, leading to the release of large amounts of cardiac enzymes into the bloodstream. An increase in cardiac enzymes suggests that myocardial cell necrosis has occurred. When elevated cardiac enzymes are accompanied by symptoms such as chest tightness, chest pain, or pressure-like pain, acute myocardial necrosis or acute myocardial infarction should be considered.

Blood collection for cardiac enzymes is generally performed using yellow-top tubes.

Cardiac enzyme testing helps determine whether myocardial cells have died. These enzymes are primarily present in myocardial cells; when the cells die, their cell membranes rupture and release cardiac enzymes into the bloodstream. Elevated cardiac enzymes mainly indicate acute myocardial infarction. When myocardial cells suffer from ischemia and hypoxia, large amounts of cardiac enzymes are released into the blood, suggesting myocardial cell necrosis. If increased cardiac enzymes are accompanied by symptoms such as chest tightness, chest pain, or pressure-like discomfort, acute myocardial necrosis or acute myocardial infarction should be considered. Acute myocardial infarction is a serious cardiovascular condition caused by severe narrowing or blockage of the coronary arteries—vital blood vessels supplying the heart—leading to inadequate blood and oxygen supply to a large number of myocardial cells, resulting in symptoms like chest tightness and chest pain. In summary, if symptoms such as chest tightness, chest pain, or signs suggestive of tissue death occur, cardiac enzyme testing should be performed. Moreover, yellow-top tubes should be used when collecting blood samples for cardiac enzyme analysis.
