Introduction
Acute pharyngitis is usually an acute infection of the pharynx, commonly presenting with symptoms such as sore throat, foreign body sensation in the throat, dryness, or a burning sensation. A minority of patients may also experience cold-like symptoms including headache and general malaise. In rare cases, patients with strong immune resistance may recover spontaneously. However, most patients require medication, along with adequate rest, increased fluid intake, and a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and semi-liquid foods.

Many people in daily life suffer from pharyngitis, which seriously affects their everyday lives and causes various throat problems. So, can acute pharyngitis heal on its own?

Can Acute Pharyngitis Heal on Its Own?

Acute pharyngitis is usually an acute infection of the throat, commonly presenting symptoms such as sore throat, foreign body sensation in the throat, dryness, or a burning feeling. A minority of patients may also experience cold-like symptoms including headache and general malaise. If a patient has sufficiently strong immunity, in rare cases, the condition might resolve spontaneously. However, most patients require medical intervention. It's important to get adequate rest, drink plenty of water, and consume fruits, vegetables, semi-liquid foods, and easily digestible or light meals. If symptoms persist for 3–5 days without improvement, it is recommended to visit an otolaryngology (ENT) department at a hospital.

Acute pharyngitis can lead to significant complications such as throat pain, pharyngeal edema, difficulty swallowing, and even respiratory failure. Some patients may develop severe conditions, including abscess formation or fever. For treatment, initial evaluation should be done in the otolaryngology department, where indirect laryngoscopy, complete blood count, and assessment of inflammatory markers help determine the severity and type of inflammation. If the inflammation is caused by acute bacterial infection, antibiotics may be considered—commonly used ones include cephalosporins or penicillins, which can be combined with nebulized therapy.

Individuals suffering from pharyngitis should pay close attention to self-care in daily life, strengthen their resistance and immune system, and avoid worsening of the condition, which could impact their quality of life. We hope this information is helpful. Wishing you good health and happiness!
