Normal hCG values in pregnancy
In daily life, many pregnant women pay close attention to their physical health, hoping to ensure both their own well-being and the healthy development of the fetus. So, what is the normal hCG level during pregnancy?
Normal hCG Levels in Pregnancy
In early pregnancy, blood hCG levels typically range from several hundred to several thousand IU/L. However, a single hCG measurement alone cannot fully determine whether the embryo is developing normally or if the pregnancy is progressing healthily. Dynamic monitoring of blood hCG levels over time is necessary to assess changes. If the hCG level increases fourfold within 4–6 days, this generally indicates good embryonic development. If hCG fails to double or shows fluctuations during this period, it may signal potential problems with the embryo, and the patient should remain vigilant. A declining hCG level when it should be rising strongly suggests possible embryonic demise, and immediate medical evaluation and management are required.

Reference ranges vary among hospitals—some define normal as 0–5 IU/L, others as 0–10 IU/L, and some as 0–25 IU/L. If more than seven days have passed since sexual intercourse and the hCG level exceeds the laboratory's reference range, pregnancy can be confirmed. Accurate diagnosis of pregnancy is possible as early as seven days after intercourse. The following day, hCG and progesterone levels should be tested to determine whether progesterone is low and whether supportive fetal maintenance treatment is needed. It’s important to evaluate whether hCG levels are doubling appropriately; insufficient doubling may raise suspicion of ectopic pregnancy, which may require hospitalization for observation. Once an ectopic pregnancy is diagnosed, timely conservative treatment, hysteroscopic surgery, or laparotomy should be performed as needed.

Pregnant women should also maintain a balanced diet to ensure adequate nutritional intake, thereby enhancing their resistance and immunity, supporting their own health and the healthy growth of the fetus. We hope this information has been helpful. Wishing you good health and happiness!
