Introduction
"COVID" refers to the novel coronavirus. Persistent coughing after infection with the novel coronavirus may be caused by non-pathological factors such as dietary irritation, or by pathological factors such as novel coronavirus infection or coexisting pharyngitis. It is recommended that patients visit a正规 hospital to undergo examinations including complete blood count, chest CT, and pulmonary function tests to determine the underlying cause and receive appropriate symptomatic treatment.

COVID-19 refers to the novel coronavirus. Persistent coughing after infection with the novel coronavirus may be caused by non-pathological factors such as dietary irritation, or by pathological factors such as novel coronavirus infection or coexisting pharyngitis.

I. Non-pathological Factors

If a patient consumes spicy or irritating foods—such as hot pot or barbecued items—after being infected with the novel coronavirus, these foods may irritate the mucous membranes of the throat and trigger coughing. This is a normal reaction. It is recommended to maintain a light diet, drink plenty of water, and avoid consuming spicy or irritating foods.

II. Pathological Factors

1. Novel Coronavirus Infection

If a patient fails to take proper protective measures and becomes infected with the novel coronavirus, the virus can invade the throat, stimulating the mucous membranes and triggering an inflammatory response, leading to congestion and swelling. This results in coughing. For patients experiencing significant dry cough, medications such as benproperine or dextromethorphan may be used for treatment. Some patients may develop noticeable mucus secretion from respiratory mucosa, resulting in productive cough. In such cases, treatments like Pulike Mixture, Jizhi Syrup, or acetylcysteine may be used.

2. Coexisting Pharyngitis

After the body is infected with the novel coronavirus, immune function may decline, making the throat mucosa more susceptible to irritation from airborne dust or irritating gases. This can lead to bronchial irritation and cause coughing. Patients may follow medical advice to use medications such as Compound Honeysuckle Granules or Amoxicillin Capsules to reduce inflammation and relieve cough symptoms.

In addition to the above three causes, persistent coughing may also result from other conditions, such as coexisting chronic bronchitis. If a patient continues to cough incessantly after infection, they should visit a reputable hospital for tests including complete blood count, chest CT scan, and pulmonary function testing to determine the underlying cause and receive appropriate treatment. Additionally, patients should prioritize rest and ensure sufficient sleep in daily life.
