Does an injured eye need to be immediately removed?
Whether an injured eye needs immediate removal depends on the severity of the injury and requires specific evaluation.
I. Not necessary
If the injury is not severe and vision is largely unaffected after examination, immediate removal is generally unnecessary. Timely treatment under a doctor's guidance is sufficient. During treatment, regular follow-up visits to the hospital are important to prevent infection.
II. Necessary
If the injury is extremely severe with obvious visual impairment, and examination reveals serious damage to the lens, immediate removal is usually required. Otherwise, if the lens ruptures and its cortex leaks into the anterior chamber, it may trigger uveitis in the other healthy eye, potentially leading to blindness.
