What should not be eaten for rheumatic pain
Foods that should be avoided by people with rheumatic pain generally include high-fat foods, seafood, and overly acidic or salty foods.
1. High-fat foods
Rheumatic pain refers to localized or systemic pain caused by diseases affecting joints, muscles, bones, and surrounding soft tissues such as tendons, ligaments, bursae, and fascia. Patients with rheumatic pain should avoid consuming excessive amounts of high-fat foods, such as fatty meats and fried foods. This is because fat oxidation in the body produces ketones, and excess ketones can strongly irritate the joints. Additionally, care should be taken not to use too much oil when cooking or preparing soups.
2. Seafood
Patients with rheumatoid conditions should not frequently consume sea fish, shrimp, and other seafood, as these contain large amounts of purines. Once absorbed by the body, purines increase uric acid levels in the blood, leading to the formation of uric acid crystals in the joints, thereby exacerbating symptoms of arthritis.
3. Overly acidic or salty foods
Excessive intake of acidic foods such as peanuts, white liquor (baijiu), white sugar, chicken, duck, and eggs can increase lactic acid secretion and deplete certain calcium and magnesium ions, thus worsening the condition. Salty foods like pickled vegetables and salted eggs increase sodium ion levels in the body, potentially causing edema and aggravating symptoms.
