What causes shortness of breath, chest tightness, and difficulty breathing?
Rapid breathing, chest tightness, and shortness of breath may be caused by physiological factors, or they could result from pathological conditions such as bronchitis or pneumonia.
1. Physiological Factors
These symptoms may arise due to excessive emotional excitement, intense physical exercise, heavy alcohol consumption, or similar causes. They are considered normal physiological phenomena, usually transient, and tend to resolve spontaneously.
2. Pathological Factors
1. Bronchitis: This may occur when the body's resistance decreases, allowing invasion by bacteria, viruses, mycoplasma, or other pathogens. It can also be triggered by allergens such as pollen or dust, leading to congestion and swelling of the bronchial mucosa, resulting in bronchitis.
2. Pneumonia: This may develop after extensive inflammatory infection in the lungs occupies significant alveolar space, reducing the area available for gas exchange between the lungs and the bloodstream, thereby causing hypoxia in the body.
In addition to the above causes, these symptoms could also be due to coronary heart disease. Treatment targeting the underlying cause is recommended.
