Is brucellosis a contagious disease?
Brucellosis is a contagious disease.
The main sources of brucellosis infection are animals such as cattle, sheep, horses, dogs, and pigs. Humans infected with brucellosis typically develop symptoms including low-grade fever, fatigue, and upper respiratory discomfort. Some patients may also experience hepatosplenomegaly (enlarged liver and spleen) or testicular swelling and pain. Prompt medical treatment is essential upon infection. Treatment usually involves oral administration of antibiotics such as roxithromycin capsules or cefixime dispersible tablets under a doctor's guidance. In severe cases, intramuscular or intravenous injections of sodium penicillin or ceftriaxone sodium for injection may be used to improve the condition. These treatments help eliminate the pathogenic bacteria in the body, achieving a bactericidal effect. Since varying degrees of fever may occur during illness, patients can also use physical cooling methods and drink plenty of warm water to prevent rapid temperature rise and help effectively control the disease.
During treatment, patients are advised to pay attention to dietary habits and avoid consuming raw or undercooked food. Additionally, proper personal protective measures should be taken when handling animals or poultry.
