Introduction
The fixation of a nasogastric tube can generally be achieved using the "heart-shaped window tape" method: first attach a transparent dressing to the nose, cut the nasal portion of the tape into a heart shape, apply it to the nasal surface, and wrap the tape around the gastric tube. Alternatively, use the adhesive and pressure-sensitive tape method: fix a transparent dressing onto the nose, then wrap adhesive tape around both the gastric tube and the transparent dressing to secure it. The traditional method involves using two strips of tape—one taped in a cross over the nasal ala to secure the tube, and the other fixed to the same side of the face or earlobe for additional support.

The common methods for securing a nasogastric tube with tape include the heart-shaped window tape method, adhesive and pressure-fixation tape method, and traditional fixation method.

1. Heart-shaped window tape method

First, apply a hydrocolloid transparent dressing to the nose. Then cut a heart-shaped opening in the pressure-fixation tape, place it over the nasal area, and wrap the tape around the nasogastric tube to secure it.

2. Adhesive and pressure-fixation tape method

Begin by applying a hydrocolloid transparent dressing to the nasal area. Next, wrap the tape around the nasogastric tube and adhere it firmly onto the transparent dressing.

3. Traditional fixation method

This typically involves using two pieces of tape of approximately equal length. One piece is crossed over the tube and affixed to the side of the nostril for stabilization, while the other is secured to the same side of the face or earlobe.

In addition, Y-shaped tape combined with liquid skin protectant can also be used to help secure the nasogastric tube. When applying tape, it's important to monitor the skin condition closely to prevent allergic reactions.
