Introduction
After removal of the gastric tube, a sensation of a foreign body in the throat may be caused by conditions such as acute pharyngitis, gastroesophageal reflux, or acute tonsillitis, which require targeted treatment. Specifically: acute pharyngitis may result from bacterial infection or decreased resistance, and the removal of the gastric tube might exacerbate the inflammation, leading to this symptom.

After removal of the nasogastric tube, a sensation of a foreign body in the throat may occur, possibly due to conditions such as acute pharyngitis, gastroesophageal reflux, or acute tonsillitis. Targeted treatment is required, with specific analyses as follows:

1. Acute Pharyngitis

Acute pharyngitis may be caused by bacterial infection, decreased immunity, or other factors. After nasogastric tube removal, inflammation may worsen, leading to this sensation. Under medical guidance, medications such as compound borax mouthwash or amoxicillin capsules can be used for treatment.

2. Gastroesophageal Reflux

After removal of the nasogastric tube, gastric contents may reflux into the pharynx. The stomach acid then irritates the pharyngeal mucosa, causing discomfort and the sensation of a foreign body. Under medical supervision, drugs such as domperidone tablets or lansoprazole enteric-coated tablets can be taken for treatment.

3. Acute Tonsillitis

Acute tonsillitis may result from reduced immunity, allowing bacteria to remain and rapidly multiply within the tonsils. After nasogastric tube removal, bacterial growth and reproduction may accelerate, causing this symptom. Under a doctor’s guidance, medications such as cefaclor dispersible tablets or penicillin V potassium tablets can be prescribed for treatment.

In addition to the above, chronic laryngitis, peripheral neuropathy, or throat cancer may also cause a sensation of a foreign body in the throat after nasogastric tube removal. It is recommended to immediately consult a physician to clarify the current condition and follow professional medical advice.
