Symptoms of bronchiectasis
Common symptoms of bronchiectasis typically include chronic cough, sputum production, and hemoptysis.
1. Chronic cough: After being irritated by inflammation and secretions, the bronchi often lead to a chronic cough, which is usually more pronounced in the morning.
2. Sputum production: As the infection worsens, patients produce significantly more sputum, particularly upon waking and in the evening. The sputum is typically yellow-green and purulent, sometimes accompanied by a foul odor.
3. Hemoptysis: Some patients may cough up blood-tinged sputum; severe cases can result in massive hemoptysis or even asphyxiation, posing a life-threatening risk.
In addition to the above symptoms, patients may also experience fever, fatigue, and decreased appetite.
