Introduction
Under normal circumstances, a two-loop nuchal cord may pose risks. The typical umbilical cord length ranges from 30 to 70 centimeters. A nuchal cord usually occurs due to factors such as an excessively long umbilical cord, frequent fetal movements, or a small fetus. A two-loop nuchal cord may lead to variable decelerations and, in severe cases, result in fetal distress. Pregnant women should increase the frequency of fetal heart monitoring and attend regular prenatal checkups.

Under normal circumstances, a fetal nuchal cord (umbilical cord wrapped around the neck) for two full turns may pose risks. The detailed analysis is as follows:

A normal umbilical cord typically measures between 30 and 70 centimeters in length. Fetal nuchal cords usually occur due to factors such as an excessively long umbilical cord, frequent fetal movements, or a relatively small fetus. In general, it is fairly common clinically for the umbilical cord to wrap once around the fetal neck. This situation carries a low risk of complications and usually does not require special intervention. However, it is important to consistently monitor fetal heart rate and fetal movements. If the umbilical cord wraps around the neck two or more times, it may lead to fetal hypoxia (lack of oxygen), impaired blood flow, and fetal distress, adversely affecting the fetus's growth and development. In severe cases, it could even result in intrauterine fetal demise.

If the umbilical cord is wrapped twice around the fetus’s neck, pregnant women should increase the frequency of fetal heart monitoring and attend regular prenatal checkups to closely monitor the baby’s development inside the uterus. Additionally, changing body positions may help improve or correct the situation—for example, performing hip-lift exercises to encourage fetal turning. If there are no other complications, starting from week 34 of pregnancy, renting a hospital-provided remote fetal monitor allows expectant mothers to track the fetal heart rate at home. Should reduced fetal movement or abnormal results on fetal monitoring occur, prompt contact with the healthcare provider is essential.
