Can liver coarsening be reversed?
Coarsened liver texture generally refers to increased coarseness of hepatic parenchymal echogenicity, and whether it can be reversed usually depends on the underlying cause.
1. Reversible
Increased coarseness of hepatic parenchymal echogenicity is typically a finding observed during imaging examinations. If this change is caused by viral hepatitis, it can usually be reversed with antiviral treatment under medical guidance, along with abstaining from alcohol and avoiding high-calorie, high-vitamin, and high-protein foods.
2. Irreversible
If the above-mentioned change results from chronic liver disease that has not been timely diagnosed and treated, leading to diffuse liver fibrosis and subsequent cirrhosis, although anti-inflammatory and anti-fibrotic treatments under medical supervision may help improve the condition, this type of change is generally irreversible and cannot be restored to normal.
After being diagnosed with liver disease, patients are advised to remain vigilant and actively pursue treatment to prevent disease progression and minimize adverse effects on health.
