Introduction
Frequent uterine contractions at 38 weeks of pregnancy accompanied by abdominal pain at night may be caused by conditions such as enteritis, false labor contractions (Braxton Hicks contractions), or the onset of labor. When suffering from enteritis, the intestinal mucosa may become congested and swollen, leading to intermittent lower abdominal pain. This can also stimulate the uterus, resulting in frequent contractions. During this period, it is important to stay relaxed and avoid significant emotional fluctuations or excessive stress.

Frequent uterine contractions accompanied by abdominal pain at 38 weeks of pregnancy may be caused by false labor, onset of labor, or conditions such as enteritis.

1. False Labor

At 38 weeks of pregnancy, which is considered the late stage of pregnancy, false labor contractions may occur. These are characterized by irregular timing and short duration, and do not indicate true labor. Symptoms can be relieved by resting more and relaxing mentally.

2. Onset of Labor

During actual labor at 38 weeks, contractions become regular and frequent—occurring approximately every 3 to 5 minutes—and last longer than 31 seconds each time. In addition to abdominal pain, symptoms may include a sensation of pelvic pressure, tightening, and hardening of the abdomen. It is recommended to go to the hospital promptly and work with a healthcare provider who can perform diagnostic tests such as ultrasound to confirm labor and prepare for delivery.

3. Enteritis

Enteritis may cause intestinal mucosal congestion and edema, leading to intermittent lower abdominal pain. This condition can also stimulate the uterus, resulting in frequent uterine contractions. The condition can be managed according to medical advice using medications such as oral rehydration salts and montmorillonite powder.

During this period, it's important to stay calm and avoid excessive emotional fluctuations or stress.
