How is the iodine test performed?
Iodine testing is clinically known as iodine staining, which involves soaking the cervix with an iodine solution and observing changes in the cervical epithelium after 30 seconds to diagnose the presence of cervical lesions. This test should be performed at a正规 medical facility. The specific procedure is as follows:
1. The patient assumes the lithotomy position, with legs spread to expose the examination area.
2. The doctor performs routine disinfection and uses a vaginal speculum to open the vagina, exposing the cervix. Excess secretions on the cervical surface are wiped away with a sterile swab.
3. The doctor applies the iodine solution to the surface of the cervix and observes color changes in the cervical epithelium after 30 seconds.
If the cervical epithelium turns brownish-yellow, it is referred to as a positive iodine test (+), indicating normal tissue. If there is no color change in the cervical epithelium, it is called a negative iodine test (-), indicating abnormality, and a cervical biopsy should be performed for further evaluation.
