Introduction
Keratosis pilaris, commonly known as "chicken skin," may be caused by excessively dry skin, thickened stratum corneum, or clogged hair follicle openings. It is a common skin condition characterized by small, bump-like rashes resembling chicken skin, which can cause itching and discomfort. If symptoms are severe or persist for a prolonged period, medical attention should be sought promptly.

Itchy "chicken skin" may be caused by excessively dry skin, thickened stratum corneum, or blocked hair follicle openings.

   1. Excessively Dry Skin

"Chicken skin," a common skin condition, often presents as small, bump-like papules on the skin resembling goosebumps, hence the name. It can cause itching and discomfort. Daily use of moisturizing creams or lotions is recommended to keep the skin hydrated and reduce thickening of the stratum corneum.

   2. Thickened Stratum Corneum

Chicken skin may result from a thickened stratum corneum, leading to itching. It is advisable to consume more foods rich in vitamins A, C, and E, as well as omega-3 fatty acids—such as fish, nuts, and leafy green vegetables—which help improve skin health.

   3. Blocked Hair Follicle Openings

Chicken skin can also be caused by blocked hair follicle openings, commonly appearing on the arms, thighs, buttocks, and other areas, causing itching and discomfort. Avoid using irritating cosmetics or facial cleansers, and refrain from friction or scratching.

Additionally, it could also be due to allergies. If symptoms are severe or persist for a prolonged period, medical attention should be sought promptly.
