What causes low-grade fever and excessive sweating?
Low-grade fever with night sweats may be caused by heatstroke, upper respiratory tract infections, pneumonia, hyperthyroidism, pulmonary tuberculosis, and other conditions.
1. Heatstroke
During heatstroke, the body produces excessive heat in high-temperature environments and fails to dissipate it effectively, leading to elevated body temperature. Sweating is the body's natural way of cooling down, which can result in symptoms such as low-grade fever and night sweats. Additional symptoms may include headache, nausea, and vomiting. It is recommended to avoid hot, stuffy environments and follow medical advice to take medications such as Shidi Shui (Ten-Drop Water), Qing Shu Yi Qi Wan (Pills for Clearing Summer-Heat and Invigorating Qi), or Huo Xiang Zheng Qi Wan (Huo Xiang Pills) to achieve heat-clearing and summer-heat-resolving effects.
2. Upper Respiratory Tract Infection
Upper respiratory tract infections may be caused by viral infections. When the body is infected, inflammation occurs, and the body attempts self-regulation through fever and night sweats. Medications such as Lianhua Qingwen Granules, Antiviral Oral Liquid, and Qingkailing Granules may be used under medical guidance for treatment.
3. Pneumonia
Inflammation may affect the central nervous system and disrupt the body’s temperature regulation, resulting in low-grade fever or night sweats. Symptoms may also include fatigue and drowsiness. It is recommended to use antibiotics such as potassium penicillin capsules, amoxicillin capsules, or ampicillin capsules under a doctor’s supervision to eliminate infection and relieve symptoms.
4. Hyperthyroidism
Hyperthyroidism may occur due to excessive secretion of thyroid hormones into the bloodstream. Treatment may involve medications such as propylthiouracil tablets or methimazole tablets, used under a doctor’s guidance.
5. Pulmonary Tuberculosis
Pulmonary tuberculosis may result from infection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis, triggering an immune response in the body. Common symptoms include night sweats and low-grade fever, often accompanied by cough, sputum production, and chest pain. Treatment may include medications such as isoniazid tablets, rifampicin tablets, and ethambutol hydrochloride tablets, used under medical supervision.
Maintain healthy daily habits, ensure adequate sleep, and avoid overexertion and emotional fluctuations. Dress appropriately according to weather changes to prevent catching a chill. It is advisable to seek timely medical evaluation for accurate diagnosis and targeted treatment.
