Where are the latent pacemakers of the heart?
The latent pacemaker of the heart generally refers to the sinoatrial node within the cardiac conduction system.
Cardiac conduction typically begins at the sinoatrial node and then spreads into the atria. The sinoatrial node controls the entire electrical activity of the heart and regulates myocardial function. If the automaticity of the heart's latent pacemaker is abnormally high, it may lead to certain psychological changes. When pathological changes occur in the sinoatrial node, local excitability may slow down or cease, potentially suppressing pacemaker function in atrial cells and making it prone to interruption.
When symptoms such as palpitations, shortness of breath, or chest tightness occur, medical evaluation including electrocardiography (ECG) or cardiac ultrasound should be performed at a hospital to determine whether organic abnormalities are present. Additionally, lifestyle adjustments are important, including avoiding highly stimulating foods.
